Aloha, I’m Mike.

With Kauai Style, my purpose is to share authentic island living through expert Kauai vacation planning enhanced by my decades of hands-on experience within Hawai‘i’s visitor industry.

I was born and raised here in Hawaiʻi, educated on Oʻahu, and living on the North Shore of Kauaʻi, my home—the place where my Hawaiian lineage truly came to life. Growing up in a warm, welcoming community shaped who I am today and with ohana, inspired me to create a vacation planning concierge service based on the essence of authentic Kahaiu “Selfless Generosity”.

Mood

For me, my “work” is personal, an extension of my passion and purpose from my childhood til today. It’s a natural progression of my lifestyle—sharing the beauty, culture, and spirit of Kauaʻi with visitors from around the world. Every day spent “on the ground” has deepened my respect for my islands, teaching me fulfillment and the priority of caring for the land, the ocean, and the traditions that make Kaua’i so special.

Local Touches

Kauai Style is known for our small touches…little “embellishments”, ensuring authenticity! We ONLY use local grown organic Kauai fruits in our welcome baskets, local Hawaiian coffees, fish only caught by our neighbors, chocolates produced from Kauai farms…Let’s just say “No Brainers”. Farm to fork, seasoned by the sea. These products are plentiful, absolutely delicious and showcase the bountifulness of our fertile island! We are proud of our relationships with our island peers!

Humility

With over 40 years of hands-on experience in outdoor adventures and island activities, I bring a level of upscale knowledge that only comes from a lifetime of “Living It.” From booking exquisite estates and knowing the safest snorkeling spots, the most unforgettable boat tours to hidden waterfall hikes and the freshest local poke—I know where to go, and just as importantly, what to avoid to keep your experience safe and enjoyable.

Kauai Style is the culmination of those vast experiences and my passion to Kokua “Being of Gracious Service”. It’s about sharing authentic, local, immersive adventures with guests from around the world, while providing gracious, personalized service. My goal is simple: to help you create meaningful, unforgettable vacation moments with your family—memories that deeply capture the spirit of Kauaʻi. And also…having so much fun and being safe.

Keiki Days

My younger days were always spent alongside neighbors and family— fishing with cousins, down muddy trails into valleys, helping prepare large meals for the neighborhood. But mostly swimming and surfing at the beach all day. We knew exactly where to find the freshest guavas and papayas, best opihi picking, favorite inland cliffs to jump. These simple moments taught me how engage within my environment, appreciate the stunning uniqueness of my island home. Also how to care for others, how to kulikuli “be quiet”, and listen, and how to understand the needs of my community. Mālama ‘Aina “Care of the Land” taught us to honor and respect our island.

More Than “Tourists”

Adventurers I meet coming to Kauai have bright imaginations, unique backgrounds, wanting collaboration with a local acquaintance. Thus the reasons my style has evolved. Everything i do is because of all my amazing clients & wonderful guests who seek my help with their Kauai adventures. I am sincerely grateful for the continuing trust given to me. No secret, my family and friends have always known that i love to meet people in everyday situations!

Not a Cliché

Sharing warm confidence in collaboration with visitors from around the world has always been my life purpose and my calling. Initiating spontaneous conversations with families walking the beach during sunset or when i’m in line for morning coffee makes me happy and opens up some wonderful chats, laughter and life sharing. Having a cute dog helps too…

Purposeful…

Hearing amazing tales with others from afar while exploring my island together has always been my pleasure. Designing and sharing wonderful Kauai adventures with present day vacationers sincerely comes naturally. The “job” is warm and satisfying, “work” is effortless…called full flavored island sensations.

Everyday Lifestyle

Long ago kid days, living within Kauai’s stunning beauty and exploring all the valleys, trails and beaches with cousins and siblings gives clarity in honoring my upbringing and my cultural lineage.

No surprise, every day learning from the dirt and salt brought knowledge, the “aina” insists on deep appreciation and endless gratitude in how rich and vibrant and special this island is.

Heritage Teachings…

Decades of memories gone by at Grandma Lyons home on the shoreline of Kapaa never fade. Visions of traveling hikers instantly invited in by her stove top aromas and warm local charm, still reverberate. Sharing local food in a comfortable gathering with wonderful humanity are profound loving moments never forgotten.

Ways of Wisdom

As a Part Hawaiian born and raised native, island themes and traditions seasoned my character and upbringing on Kauai and Oahu. Values were taught and morals instilled by family example. Compassion and giving of oneself are qualities that resonate throughout my life. My wisdom comes from having tried or employed by all of the islands outdoor venues, regular visits to the many restaurants and knowing where the most beautiful scenery can be found. And what to avoid as unsafe or untested.

Hands on Life

I was a dedicated Maui county fire fighter/EMT handling extreme situations on Molokai, Lanai and Maui. As an Oahu county life guard, sharing my respect and love of the sea meant remaining vigilant of hazards. Opening “Roy’s” restaurants on Oahu and Maui, “Hanalei Bread Company” general manager and opening team leader on Kauai kept me in deep love of food and wine.

Fortunate Friends

I was hired for many years as general manager and property caretaker for Kauai’s largest and most exclusive north shore estate << Click here, rented by Hollywood celebrities and VIP families, where many movies were filmed. Merging enthusiasm and local wisdom with thorough competence, I fostered trusted relationships with many wonderful families, dignitaries and business leaders. My respectful handling of their special requests and gracious discretion has kept my portfolio full of returning friends and guests. My motto is always…

During high school on Oahu and latter years on Kauai, I’ve worked at“ Outrigger Hotels” as a concierge, with“Blue Hawaiian” helicopter as a concierge, Kauai’s “Na Pali Adventures” private boat tours first mate, “Princeville Ranch Adventures” guide and escort, private escort for the lead actors, personal guide & assistant to clients in the estate for Paramount & Sony Studios filming “Just Go With It“, “Pirates of the Caribbean” ,”Tropic Thunder”, as locations scout/production assistance for other Kauai made movies, limousine driver, and many more Hawaii companies.

My extensive experiences in all facets of upscale hospitality allows me to gratefully flourish within my amazing community in offering authentic vacation moments for all.
